SYDNEY DUNBAR DESIGN

ABOUT SYDNEY

Hi! I am Sydney Dunbar, lover of design, dreams and doing things right! I am a senior at Western Kentucky University working on a BS with a major in interior design.

Below you will find my resume and bio of sorts. It has information about who I am, what makes me tick, and why I love design so much. I have shared a lot about myself so that it would give you insight about who I am in hopes I would be a great fit for your firm.

Basically, I am a small town girl who loves life. I grew up in rural western Kentucky, a small town called Princeton. I am the daughter of a dietician and an agribusiness man. My parents instilled a strong work ethic in me. Being the oldest child, I was taught to embrace responsibilities that came with that while still enjoying what life had to offer. I love to travel, experience other cultures, and have fun adventures. Plus, I love people! I believe that this trait is a reflection of growing up in a small town, where I learned the importance of kindness and respect at a very young age.

As a small child, my parents enrolled me in dance classes. This is something I love and each month I still carve out time to dance. I have learned so many things such as self discipline, the importance of timing, and creativity from this art form. Even though such traits were learned through dance, they transfer over to my work today! Throughout my 16 years of training, I also learned how color, lighting, and aesthetics could directly affect one’s mood. Each year as countless performances rolled around, the costumes, music, and movement would tell a story. I loved how all of these elements fit together and affected the audience. As I became older, I noticed those same components in almost every aspect of my life and it was then that I became intrigued with the discipline of design.

Being reared in a close knit community taught me the importance of a firm foundation. Just as when building a house on a rock solid foundation, if we do not get the basic fundamentals correct from the start, the end product is never as sound as we want it to be. I was always taught if it is worth doing, it is worth doing correctly. I still hold fast to that truth today.

In recent months, I have immersed myself into the design world and am thrilled with all of the possibilities. To think I can help change someone’s personal space into their sanctuary or create a special design to set the tone for a party motivates me. I am amazed at how textures, color, and lighting can influence the atmosphere. These components make people feel comfortable and welcome. It is such a gift to be able to create and I simply would love the opportunity to grow professionally while honing my skills in my chosen field!
